Drowning to Sing Again

By Richard Johnson

dream beneath a see
white cap waves above
swirling currents surround
my voice speaks bubbles
my ears drum deep sound

soul much pressure
heart pound deep pound
frantic struggle to rise
gasp gasp breath of air
deep waters free me

where has my hearing gone
faded from Nam years ago
now I yowl to heaven
pray let me sing again
